Create or Deliver; the Dichotomy of Value

Value is the benefit a business provides to a buyer. In the best case, a buyer desires the value and money is exchanged based on the benefit the buyer receives.

There is a significant separation between creating and delivering, which differs widely and contradicts each other.

The difference between creating and delivering value

Creating value happens when a product or service is developed to fill an established need in the market place.

Value can also be delivered and not created first. The best example is a job.

You go to work, fill the requirements of an established position, and go home for the day. The next day you come back and repeat the same patterns as every other day.

In this case, you are delivering a value by doing a good job. That is why people who are in jobs often feel they have reached a dead end.

They are not able to play and create, so they often feel less valued and as a result, frustrated.

The money is in creation

Value creation has infinite more marketability than value delivery. The reason is control and effort.

The value creator uses her personal genius to find and then provide a value that does not yet exist. Then they must create an offer that allows other people to take advantage of that newly created value.

Earning potential is based on the perceived market need. If the business owner did a good job, they will have created value that has a high-perceived need by buyers.

Someone who delivers value by doing a good job is stymied by the established market value for that task.

No matter how good of a job the value deliverer does, they will only earn what an employer is willing to pay to have that task completed.

To create value simply:

1. Find a need in the marketplace that has room for new ideas.

2. Develop an offering that fills the need or offers a new way of looking at the same challenge.

3. Find a hungry market that wants what you have to offer.

4. Offer it to them consistently. Once offered, develop another product that allows your market to continue to benefit from the value you are creating.

If you feel stuck in your current business, you may actually be delivering a value instead of creating one.

Use your imagination and personal genius power to create a value that has impact on the lives of others and wake up to a new day in business.
