The Future of the American Economy

Author Seth Godin is famous for saying, “Small is the new big.

As a small business owner or Solopreneur, you are the future of the American Economy. You are one of the brave pioneers, in the trenches of entrepreneurial activity, building success in a business of your own creation one day at a time.

Big companies with huge start-up costs are out. Anyone with talent and ideas, who is passionate and determined, can succeed in the future world of business.

All you have to do is channel your passion to create a value that makes a difference in the lives of other people. Then spread the word aggressively.

Small business success depends on a few simple principles

Principle One: Create a value that makes a difference in the lives of others.

Don’t sell widgets or services. Sell the value they provide. Say “you and yours” twice as often as “I, we, or me” whenever you are talking about what you do.

Principle Two: View your business from the client’s perspective.

Ask your clients, “What is the greatest value you feel you gain from working
with me?”

Use those words and ideas to communicate your value to other people who mirror your best clients.

Principle Three: Communicate to groups of people who have reason to care consistently.

Your prospects want to hear about what you can do for them before they will pay attention.

Get prospects permission and communicate consistently. Use blog posts, newsletters, press releases, mailers, case studies, and informational special reports. Engage your prospects; show them the value you’ve created, and offer to help.

Principle Four: Be passionate and determined. Focus on spreading the word about the value you offer every day.

Use marketing to attract interested prospects, sales to close the deal, and client relationship management to keep providing value that continuously helps your happy clients. I call this the 3-Step Sales Process.

Talented small business owners and Solopreneurs are primed to accept their place in business history. You are expanding the economy and creating a bright future for our children and grandchildren.

It’s a new paradigm called living life on your own terms. Thank you for your courage and commitment to changing the world, one created value at a time.

Creating Words That Sell
Changes the Destiny of Small Businesses

This was an actual thank you letter I received from one of my clients. The value she received warmed my heart, so I thought I'd share it with my readers.

Bill,

I really can’t thank you enough for all that you have done for us and our business. You were the person we have been looking for since we started this business.

When you first came to see us we didn’t even want to be in business anymore.  We were tired and ready to throw in the towel.  You have brought life back into our business and have given us valuable, life changing tools to make this business work!

The greatest part of all is that it wasn’t that hard to do!  I feel like we were the caterpillar in its cocoon and in just 10 hours with you we have already begun to transform into a butterfly.

These new wings have given us a new perspective not only in regard to our business, but with our personal lives as well. Personally, I feel like a new person.

I am excited about the changes we have made and I am looking forward to learning the next step.  I also have read your 90-Minute Time Manager e-book and I loved it!

Instead of having a New Year’s resolution I decided to give 2008 my own personal theme:  Design and Do.  I am now designing my day in 90-minute blocks and I can’t believe what I am accomplishing.  (side note: I am also designing and decorating our home…..so you see how the theme covers all).

I can not thank you enough for your insight, time, patience and guidance.  Without your help I can assure you that I would not be starting the New Year with this kind of confidence and excitement.  Thank you a million times over!
