Playing the Part of the Personality Self
William Shakespeare gave us a clue
to living when he wrote, “All the world's a stage, and all
the men and women merely players: they have their exits and
their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts,
his acts being seven ages.”
Last week we thought about playing
the game of business. Let’s take that one step further and
expand that game to include “the personality self” or you.
How are you known in the world? You
are known through your personality.
In fact, all of the world is a stage
and your personality self is the actor playing her or his
part in the greatest play of all; life. Here’s how your
business fits in.
Your
personality is your personal business brand
To understand this personal brand better, start by looking
inside. Write down the answer to the question, “Who am I and
what do I believe in.”
Your authentic personal
philosophies shape your personality brand. Write down at
least 10-things you believe about your life in business.
Then look at your clients. What
would they say the greatest value you offer them would be?
If you have no idea what your
clients would say, just ask them. What words do they
use to describe the value you provide in business?
Finally, look at your
sales
process. How do you engage prospects and convert them
into clients?
How do you attract interest, turn
that interest into revenue, and continue to build on that
relationship for the long term?
Your answers to these questions will
begin to shape your personal brand or the part you are
playing in business.
Now
that you know what part you’re playing, how do you relate
that to others?
Think of yourself as a product to be
packaged. Your philosophies, value you provide and processes
are all part of that packaging.
First think visually. How do you
look to the world?
Do you have a recent photo? Does
that image create a personal brand identity that projects
your true self-image?
How about your logo? Does it convey
the essence of who you are and what you do?
If your logo is dated, update. If
you are using a photo that was shot 2-years ago,
get a new one taken.
Now go
out and tell the world.
Communicate consistently. Let people
know what you think. Use a newsletter, blog, online forum,
seminars; project your message and your personal brand for
everyone to see.
It takes effort and commitment to
create and maintain a personal brand.
Once established, give clients and
prospects a consistent self-branding message that tells them
more about you.
What will you do with this information today? As a subscriber to this list, you
have a distinct advantage over everyone else in business.
Take advantage of it
now.
