Sales Process Blunders and How to Avoid Them

Typically, small business owners pay the most attention to their core product or service. They agonize and sweat over every detail until it is perfect.

Then they realize that perfection has not yet been reached (and never will be), so they go back to “tweaking” and redevelop.

In the meantime, the one detail that can help reach all goals and achieve all expansion plans is completely unattended to or done in a half-hearted way.

That magic area is sales. When done consistently sales will:

  • Fund all growth

  • Provide dollars for new product/service development

  • Pay a staff so more clients can be served, thus expanding the business

  • Buy new equipment

  • Provide comfort for the owner and her employees

And many other necessary and desired things

Sales is the key to the door of success and business fulfillment.

In Understanding the Sales Process, I explained what the sales process is and how it works. Unfortunately not enough people will read and act on the ideas.

They will continue to make mistakes that hold down revenues and sales. Those common mistakes are:

  1. Seeing marketing as something separate from sales. They are all one thing.

  2. Thinking that the system of selling is the sole sales process. It is only the part the turn’s attraction into revenue.

  3. Making client relationship management an after thought; when in fact it is the single most important aspect of the entire sales process.

  4. Not including a plan that is followed 100% of the time to generate referrals from happy clients.

  5. Not providing clients, fans and prospects with an easy way to spread the good news about you and your business.

  6. And the # 1 BIGGEST sales process mistake almost all businesses make is: Not having a consistent method that works on a predictable basis to initiate contact with new clients.

Creating a winning sales process is the key to the door for achieving everything you have ever wanted from both your business and your life. Yes, it’s that important.
