How Trying Can Ruin Your Business
Here’s an interesting fact. The word "try"
can be the kiss of death to your business accomplishments.
The reason is the word try indicates to
your subconscious mind that you really don’t think it’s possible to
accomplish the task you’re considering.
You use the word try as a way to fend off
the feeling of failure.
"I tried, but just couldn’t get
__________ (fill in the task) done."
Instead of trying and being
disappointed, use this approach.
Think of something important you want to
accomplish.
Decide with firm conviction you’re going
to do it.
Set an exact date and time to accomplish
the task.
Schedule it in your time planner.
If you don’t have a time planner, get a
simple one started today. I like the "At a Glance" calendar books
for their simplicity and effectiveness.
Stick to your schedule and accomplish the
tasks one-by-one.
Treat the tasks you want to accomplish
like any other important appointment. You cannot blow it off because
something else came up any more than you could dismiss a sales call
or client meeting.
Repeat with every important task you want
to accomplish.
Reset your brain. Every time you hear the
word try creep in, think of this exercise.
Drop a pencil on the floor and try
to pick it up.
Look down at it and wish the pencil would
appear in your hand.
Meditate or visualize yourself writing
with the pencil and hope that one day, the pencil will reappear in
your hand.
Or make the decision that you want to
write with the pencil. Reach down, pick it up and start writing.
You did not try to pick up the
pencil. You simply made the decision to reach down and pick it up.
It’s the same with your business schedule.
If you try to accomplish important tasks and hope that
someday you’ll get to them, you probably won’t.
Try is the word you’ve learned to give
yourself permission to fail without feeling bad about it.
If you want to accomplish important tasks
simply decide to do them. Schedule time to work on the task at hand,
repeat until the task is completed.
Your business will grow. Your life will be
less stressful. Your confidence will soar. All because you stopped
trying and started doing with conviction.
