What is Business?
As pointed out in a
previous Creative
Business Strategy, the “purpose” of business is to build wealth.
But exactly what is business?
Simply put, business is the creation of values and the exchange of
those values for money.
You share the value you’ve created by
utilizing Conscious Selling. Here’s how it works:
- Contact people who have reason
to be interested in the value
you have created.
- Ask permission to tell them
more.
- If they express interest, you
have an warm prospect.
- If they say no, respect their
desires and simply cross them
off your list and move on.
You have created a value, asked
permission to share it and evaluated individual interest. This
conscious approach allows people to participate if they see a
value they need or quickly opt-out if they don’t.
The greatest challenge people have in
business is they are producing
values instead of creating them.
When you have a job, you go to work, accomplish a set number of
specific tasks, do a good job, earn a paycheck and come back the
next day. You are producing a value someone is willing to pay
you for.
Value production has limited value because it is status quo. It’s
expected that you’ll do a good job.
Unfortunately, a majority of people in small business produce
values instead of create them. As a result, their business is
easily overcome by competition and often under performs due to lack
of competitive advantage.
The Greatest Competitive Edge you can ever gain in small business is
to use your knowledge, strength, passion and talent to create values
that other people want to buy.
Why is business so important?
Business forces people to move from stagnation to self-growth, which
inspires self reliance.
With self-reliance comes personal responsibility and accountability,
which leads to self actualization
A society that is self-actualized is self lead. Individual personal
genius flourishes when given the framework of self-leadership and
the overall economy benefits as a result.
That’s why I always say, "Small
Business is the future of the American Economy."
Here is the cycle of true happiness and
unique value creation in business
- Discover your talent and passion
- Create a business around it
- Develop a well defined system
and process to promote and sell
the value your business offers
- Use the system daily to gain new
clients
- Service your new clients with
preeminence
- Continue to offer value to your
existing clients (called backend selling)
- Ask every client who they know
that you should be talking to so that you can help them too
(called referral generation)
- Repeat the cycle of happiness in
business consistently
It’s always up to you to

Your Vision, reach for your greatest goals, and make a
difference in the lives of others every day.
