Your Talent is Your Brand
Last week we talked about using your passion as the way to
become a sales and marketing superstar.
Let’s face it, everyone enjoys doing business with people
that are passionate about what they do.
What if you’re having a hard time discovering exactly what
to be passionate about?
Here’s the answer.
Make your talent in business the brand that you sell. No
matter what you do, when your talent is your brand you
become so engaged, so engrossed and so enthusiastic that you
become contagious.
In other words, your passion shines through so brightly that
other people are attracted to you like a magnet.
The next question becomes, what is your
talent in business?
While it may not seem simple on the surface, your talent in
business is actually very easy to uncover.
First, remember back to why you got into the business you’re
in.
Then recount what you knew then. Compare that with what you
have learned over the years of doing your business.
If you’re like most people, you’ll remember the start up
days with a bit of embarrassment.
“Man, I really didn’t know much about what this business
at all when I started,” is commonly heard.
That specialized knowledge is actually the talent that you
have developed. You are one of a very few people who have
it.
Your knowledge is a skill or “talent” that only you and a
few others in your industry possess.
Now think about the companies that you enjoy working with
most. What industry are they in? How large of a company are
they? What do they value about the work you do with them?
Then simply contact other companies that are just like those
you most enjoy working and share your knowledge/talent with
them.
It’s never about marketing messages. It’s
really about sharing your talent in business.
Marketing and sales often seems hard or even impossible.
Sharing your knowledge in a way that helps other people is
the way adult human beings play.
The question becomes, would you rather work hard or play for
a living. I’m guessing that play wins out every time.
You can do it easily. Just share your specialized knowledge
and the value you have created with groups of people who
have reason to care. You are then exploiting your talent to
add value to the lives of other people.
The benefit for doing it is long term happiness and success
in both your business and your life.
