Everyone Wants to Tell You HOW to Grow Your Business

There are countless books, web sites, courses, seminars, workshops and tele-conferences covering all aspects of growing a business.

From A to Z, every facet is covered.

There’s one problem. You’ll buy the books, read them once, and never do anything with the information.

You’ll spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars going to the workshops or buying the courses that promise “the secret” or the “magic key” to the door of success.

There’s a problem here as well.

These secrets require you to think differently and do things that are well outside the scope of what you are willing to do. They provide distraction more than focus.

Neither books nor workshops meet you where you are. As a result, you will spend your money, feel frustration, and vow never to do it again. Until the next time, of course.

The only thing that is proven to work is to find someone to do the work for you. Acknowledge that you have gaps in your experience and expertise; then hire someone to help you.

That’s right, you need to bring in people to do the work you can not or will not do on your own.

Allow me to tell you a story about a client I’m very proud of that relates directly to this idea.

Her name is Jeffrie Story and her company is Unleash Your Sales DNA.

A while back, Jeffrie and I began working together to expand her business. She is in the business of helping companies in the newspaper industry increase sales through initiating contact and sales accountability tracking.

Together, we developed a complete sales process that incorporated:

  • Marketing to attract the ideal client.
     
  • Her system of selling to turn attraction into money.
     
  • A Client Relationship Management program that created additional sales and generated qualified referrals.

In talking to Jeffrie this morning, one thing became very clear. Jeffrie did the hard work necessary to run and build a business.

  4. Hiring people to do the work that she cannot or will not do on her own

This morning, Jeffrie told me, “I’m getting referrals before new clients even purchase from me.”

Obviously, the system and process that we developed together is working well for Jeffrie.

Jeffrie shared one more secret to her success.

She said, “The message is nobody calls you. You have to call them. You have to depend on yourself, period. You have to do the hard work and when you do, you reap great results.”

Jeffries’ other “secret” is to stay focused. “Don’t jump off into new ideas. Do what is proven to work and stay focused on that one thing. Use your creativity and put it ALL back into one focus instead of diluting it with many interests.”

How well did this work for Jeffrie Story in 2006?

She was the top sales performer nationwide for one of her strategic partners.

She reached her revenue goal for 2006 and is ready to explode in 2007 using her well-defined system and process.

She spent vacation time this year in S. America and just returned from 2-weeks in S. Africa. When she returned business (through referrals) was waiting.

You may now be asking, how did Jeffrie do all that again?

  1. She developed a strategy that focused on a tight niche market.
     
  2. Hired an expert to fill her knowledge gaps to create a system and process that she would follow without distraction.
     
  3. Took focused action everyday to reach her goals. That means she did marketing and selling every day.
