The REAL Purpose of
Business
There seems to be
great confusion in the minds of small business owners on exactly
what the purpose of business really is.
Some think it’s to serve clients. And it is not.
Others feel that they are here to make a difference in the world.
While that’s a wonderful thought, it really has nothing to do with
the REAL purpose of business.
The REAL purpose of business is to build wealth for the business
owner. Once that happens, the business can afford to reach clients
so that they can be helped.
Achieving the REAL purpose also allows anyone in business to make a
difference in the world of their clients, if that’s what the
business is structured to do.
But without building wealth, which starts by building a strong
economic base, the business will never reach its potential and will
eventually fold.
How do you build wealth in a business?
I’ve researched the
top minds in business and life, both past and present and found they
all follow a set of steps.
Here are those steps:
1. See a big picture vision of your business. Once established,
envision the steps necessary to reach that goal. Picture it; don’t
see it in words at this stage.
2. Next, write the steps you’ve visualized down. Then consider all
of the nitty, gritty details that make your vision work.
Without the details
the vision is merely a dream. This is called “integrated thinking.”
Steps one and two combined are called “Power Thinking.” People like
Copernicus, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and even Bill Gate all share
the ability to Power Think successfully.
3. Plan your days by scheduling physical movements in time segments
instead of scheduling tasks.
Sales, marketing, project work and meetings can be physical
movements. Call Joe Smith or write a letter to Sally Jones is a
task. Organize it under the physical movement it best fits.
4. Only work on tasks that take you one step closer to your big
picture vision. Don’t just jump in and react to the day, Power Think
your week and day, then schedule tasks under their proper physical
movement.
5. Make sure you schedule enough time for your sales and marketing
physical movements everyday.
If the purpose of business is to build
wealth, what is more important than selling and attracting new
clients consistently?
